Between lavish mountains and rich wildlife, a city full of surprises is booming: Boise, Idaho. The capital, a former military outpost along the Oregon Trail, is rapidly branding itself as the place for event planners to organize meetings, conferences and social events.

Boise Centre Expansion

The state’s primary meeting facility, Boise Centre, currently offers 50,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space and features a 25,000-square-foot ballroom, state-of-the-art digital signage and wireless Internet throughout the facility. And with Boise rapidly becoming an increasingly attractive and practical destination for larger conferences, the Boise Centre unveiled a plan for expansion.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter told the Professional Convention Management Association, “The proposed expansion plans will allow Boise to accommodate more visitors, and in turn, more people will be able to discover the magic of the Boise Valley.”
In the past, Boise Centre has had to turn away convention business because the demand surpassed what it could supply. However, with their new plan, Boise Centre will add another 36,000 square feet to its current size. Work on the project is well underway with the first phase scheduled for completion by September 2016.

The Boise Centre Team includes event planners, culinary and service professionals who are accustomed to pulling together events on a tight schedule. Thanks to the resources they have at their disposal, they can plan rapidly and efficiently.

Demand for Hotel Space Skyrocketing

In order to welcome an increasing number of visitors at the Boise Centre, there has been a hotel boom in Boise’s vibrant downtown. Three new hotels are being built, offering an additional 436 rooms in the downtown corridor. Boise Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Carrie Westergard said, “We suspect the hotel boom is happening because people are learning what we already know. Boise is a wonderful place to live, work and visit.”

Innovation On The Rise

Another large project that opened late in 2015 is JUMP – Jack’s Urban Meeting Place. This innovative space focuses on creativity and learning while providing a 3-acre urban park, five studios and multiple meeting spaces. JUMP hosted open houses in December to show that uses for the space are limited only by the imagination, showcasing dance troupes, aerial acrobatics and martial arts. The facility is sure to make a lasting impression on anyone who attends an event there.

Boise has a blend that preserves the feel of the towns of the Wild West while cultivating an energy similar to that of Silicon Valley. The Centre and JUMP are both just a short, 10-minute drive away from Boise Airport, and their downtown locations place them within walking distance of the city’s most popular restaurants, which are prepared to welcome groups of any size. This safe, walkable downtown area is the perfect environment for event attendees to enjoy an evening out after a day of conferences or meetings.
