Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival 2016

Wed, Aug 31

More info Less info

http://spiritofboise.com/schedule

Since the very first Balloon Classic produced by Scott Spencer and Steve Schmader for the Boise River Festival in 1991, our staff, volunteers and sponsors have supported the basic mission of this event.
The goal of the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is to provide an exciting, family oriented production to the community of Boise, Idaho at no charge.
When we see families arrive in Ann Morrison Park, watch them spread their blankets on the ground, see happy kids of all ages, some still in their PJ’s, wrapped in blankets to enjoy a mass launching of hot air balloons, we feel like we have reached the goal of the event. The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is truly a one of a kind family friendly community event in the City of Trees.
The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is proudly produced as a partnership by Lighter Than Air America and Townsquare Media Boise.

It is a grand family experience to come to Ann Morrison Park and watch
all the balloons drifting into the morning sky above Boise.

Participants will run or hike a challenging 6.2 mile course or a 2.9 mile out-and-back course. The 6.2 mile course takes runners around two symmetrical volcanic pit Crater Rings, a unique site featuring one of the few examples of volcanic pit craters in the continental United States, and recognized as a National Natural Landmark. The 2.9 mile course leads to a spectacular view of the east crater. This is a great option for those who would like to experience the craters, but don't really want to travel all the way around them on a rough and challenging course.

Frutful

Fri, Sep 23 // 07:00 pm to 10:00 pm

More info Less info

Ūsful Glassworks is a local nonprofit. Our goal is to help the underserved get the assistance they need. We help fund job training that yields self-respect, marketable skills, hope, dignity and the opportunity for a better life.

With your help we can continue to help participants build a better life. Frūtful is our annual event. This years event features local wine, hors d'oeuvres, The Dan Costello Trio and live and silent auction. Also get to hear about how your support is helping build a better tomorrow.

Here's what Lisa a program participant had to say about the program:

"I was like one of those used wine bottles. I was used and discarded. I laid on the ground, my label faded and my contents dried. I forgot the good that was once inside, the joy and happiness I once knew. I hated what I was and what I had become. Life was dark, bad and not worth living. The prison took what little hope I had reinforcing what people and drugs had told me about myself my whole life...

I came to the Work Center looking for work. I was told I had to have a job or I'd be sent back to the prison, and someone else who was employable would take my place. Once again, I was not worth keeping. I found a job here at Ūsful Glassworks,

I was recycled. I was picked up, washed off a little and was cut off at the top, sanded down and polished. I've been given hope, worthiness and self-love."

Now I shine, not just on the outside, but on the inside I'm like the glasses we make. I have a new use.

Can you support participants like Lisa getting a job? If so please buy tickets to our event Frūtful, on September 23, 7 to 10 PM.

More info Less info

FitOne is the evolution of the 20-year Women's Fitness Celebration, founded by 3x Olympian and former World Record Holder, Anne Audain.

In December of 2001, St. Luke’s became the Presenting Sponsor of the Women’s Fitness Celebration. In 2013, and in collaboration with Anne, St. Luke’s identified an even greater opportunity for the event. Under the leadership of Kristin Armstrong, St. Luke’s Executive Director of Community Health, and Heather Hill, Event Director, the idea of FitOne
was born.

With FitOne, our mission is to build healthier communities through fun, active living.

Being fit is not a destination; it is a way of life, and through FitOne our vision is to inspire families to come to the starting line every September and encourage progressive steps in a healthy direction throughout the year.

FitOne is organized for the benefit of the participants, the community and the promotion of health and fitness; and will continue to evolve as a year-round platform providing resources and opportunities to support active, healthy living 365 days a year.

Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity (BVHfH) is gearing up for our first annual Over the Edge event on September 24th. The McManus Comedies. A fine and Pleasant Misery

Fri, Oct 14 // 07:00 pm to 09:00 pm

More info Less info

In 1992, Patrick F. McManus, already recognized as one of America’s funniest humor writers from his columns in Field and Stream and Outdoor Life, and his many books, wondered if his stories about growing up in rural Idaho might work on the stage. Pat used his own fear of the dark as a central theme to weave some of his favorite pieces together. The result was described by one reviewer as “a wonderful cross between Mark Twain and Bill Cosby.”

The two-act play begins as Pat rummages through an old trunk. Each discovery -- a piece of tent, the slingshot “Whomper,” his collection of dried road kill, a cracked brace from his sled, “Rosebud” -- triggers recollections of a childhood incident.

The key to the success of Pat’s writing, and in Behrens’ acting, lies in activating the imagination of the audience. Just enough detail is provided to connect the viewer to each misadventure. The audience fills in the blanks, making each story their own.

In this way, specific incidents become universal experiences. Behrens portrays more than 12 different characters, each suggested by nothing more than a change of voice, posture

or movement, ranging from the dirt-encrusted old woodsman,

Rancid Crabtree, to the daft but well-meaning Mrs. Swisher.

Moscow Ballet: Swan Lake

Tue, Nov 08 // 07:00 pm to 09:30 pm

More info Less info

Revered as the epitome of classical ballets, Swan Lake is a gripping tale of love, betrayal, and the triumph of good over evil. It is the haunting story of Odette, a young maiden bewitched by the evil sorcerer von Rothbart under whose spell young maidens are condemned to be swans by day and human only at night. Odette is the Swan Queen. She is the most beautiful and wears a magnificent, bejeweled crown. In order to break the spell, a young man must swear undying love to the Swan Queen.

If he is unfaithful, she, and the swan maidens will be trapped forever. The Moscow Imperial Theater first performed Swan Lake in Moscow in 1877. Legendary composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky was commissioned to write the score. After several revisions, the ballet attained critical success in 1894/95 when choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov produced it for the St. Petersburg Ballet.

Taylor Hicks is one of the most beloved and popular AMERICAN IDOL winners of all time.

From the start, Hicks’ material on the mega-hit show set him apart, with a unique take on Southern soul, R & B, country and blues. Sixty-four million votes were cast and nearly 37 million American viewers and more than 200 million viewers worldwide tuned in to crown Hicks the Season 5 winner of AMERICAN IDOL, making it one of the most-watched TV events of the last decade.

On Broadway, Hicks starred in the hit musical, GREASE as Teen Angel, and when asked to join the national tour, happily agreed. The 18-month tour connected him with fans across North America.

Hicks, who hails from Birmingham, Ala., had music on his mind from childhood. As a young adult, he became a fixture around the Southeast, playing concerts and club dates with visiting stars like James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo’ and Widespread Panic, among others. Hicks also released the independent albums “In Your Time” and “Under the Radar.” Later, these albums were compiled and released by Vanguard Records as “Early Works.”
